Influenza A

I knew this day would come. Almost 7 years of breezing through each flu season. Addison was totally fine when she went to sleep Friday night. Around 2am she came to tell me she had a headache. I thought it was a ploy to score snuggle time in mama's bed. I told her to go ahead and crawl in the bed with me. When I went to move her hair from her face and pat her little head, I knew something was wrong. She was burning up with 103 fever. I gave her some ibuprofen and held her as she complained about her head and stomach pains until she fell asleep. As soon as the doctor's office opened, I called the nurse. We were seeing the doctor 20 minutes later. The flu test didn't even need the full time to show Addison has the flu. Bummer. The doctor sent a prescription to the pharmacy for Tamiflu, but only for Addison. I thought it was odd that she wouldn't give the whole family a prescription for it as a preventative. Oh well, we ended up going to a nearby clinic and all have prescriptions for Tamiflu now. Unfortunately, Blake and I can't start ours until tomorrow because the pharmacy was out of it and we have to go to a different one. Yeah, Tamiflu is $100 per prescription. 

BAD EARS!

Alyssa went to the doctor 1/27/15. She had an ear infection in her left ear. We went back to doctor last week for her cough. The doctor said fluid was almost gone from left ear, but to come back this week for another check. This morning Alyssa told me that her right ear hurt when she burped. I didn't think for one second that she had an ear infection in her right ear after just finishing antibiotics and seemed to be doing fine. She didn't mention it again. Her appointment was at 3:45. Surprise, surprise! Ear infection in RIGHT ear this time! What the hell? The doctor even went back over her notes to make sure there wasn't a mistake. I take notes at doctor visits too and we both noted LEFT ear. So.... The doctor could tell my hesitation about giving Alyssa more antibiotics and gave me a prescription to get filled just in case it doesn't clear up in a few days. Tonight I took a look at the spreadsheet where I record all of the pediatrician visits. Alyssa had 2 ear infections when she was 2. One on 2/17/12 (right ear) and one on 4/6/12 (left ear). Hopefully, she won't have anymore for a couple of years or ever!

I tested my ear checker when we got home and what do you know....

Valentine's Day Party

Addison's class party was a success! I fulfilled my room mom duties and still had time to play with the kids! After the party we had time to visit the book fair before parent/teacher conference. 

A few days ago Erin posted a link on Facebook with these heart shaped hairstyles. As soon as I saw it I knew my girls would have hearts in their hair!

Here are the goodie bags we made. Alyssa decided to do the crazy straws again like last year and Addison decided on the crayon hearts.

Unwrap 120 crayons 

Break the crayons in several pieces

Put the pieces in the silicone mold and bake

Tada! Then we printed the tags and hot glued the hearts on them!

Showing Love

Alyssa missed most of her Valentine's party on Thursday since she had to go see the doctor about her cough. They always have parties on Thursday and Friday because not all kids go 5 days a week. Her cough was much better this morning, so I gave her the option to go to her party or Addison's party. Of course, she chose Addison's party! Alyssa's teacher texted me this picture today along with get well wishes from the class. So sweet! We are really going to miss this amazing school when Alyssa starts kinder in the fall! 

Spirit Day Friday

We've got a lot of school spirit in 1st grade! Although, I only put the bow in my hair for the picture!

Cough Cough

This little girl has been coughing nonstop for the last 3 days. Nothing has been working to help her. Steam shower, honey, Delsym, Benadryl, etc! I kept her home from school on Wednesday to give her a day of rest. Thursday, I wasn't going to send her either, but she was devastated when she realized she would miss her Valentine's party! I went ahead and took her and was sure to tell the teacher about the cough and call me if needed. I got the call around 10:30 that Alyssa was coughing and wanted her mommy. She saw the pediatrician at 11. There's still a little fluid in her left ear that was infected a couple of weeks ago. Since Alyssa just finished her antibiotic last week, the pedi isn't too concerned and will re-check next week. About the cough, zero congestion. Lungs clear, throat is fine, nasal passages are fine. Looks like the nebulizer will be working overtime for the next week. Pulmicort twice a day and albuterol every 4 hours. I can definitely tell a difference this evening! Fingers crossed that a few days with the nebulizer and she won't be coughing anymore! Dare I say, the cough sounds like Addison's asthma cough. 

Addison's 100th Day of 1st Grade

100th day of 1st grade! I don't know where the last 100 days went though! 

99 Days

Addison will wake up in the morning surrounded by 100 balloons! We are celebrating 100 days of 1st grade tomorrow!

Yes, that's Alyssa down there on the trundle. Please don't be delusional and think she will sleep there all night. I will hear the pitter patter of her little feet in a couple of hours!

Feeling Better

No more earaches and no more pinkeye! Yesterday was the last day of eye drops for Addison. Thank goodness. She wasn't a very good patient! Alyssa doesn't like the antibiotic, but at least she takes the medicine without much of a fuss.

My Shadow

Alyssa always goes to sleep in her bed, but usually climbs into my bed after a few hours. Lately, she would rather be on the couch with me until I go to bed. No ma'am! Tonight she was so upset and wanted to lay on the couch. I told her she could go back to her bed, go ahead to my bed, or just sleep on the floor by my door since she didn't want to be away from me. I wasn't ready to go to bed yet!
