Flea Market

There's a flea market nearby with a carnival year-round! We don't make it there often, except when Memaw is in town. Addison and Alyssa love the rides and shopping (for bows, of course)!

Report Card

The 1st nine weeks are over! It's been a huge adjustment for all of us, but we survived. I'm so proud of Addison for working hard and doing her best in school.

41 Days

It only took 41 days of kindergarten for my little angel to get moved from a blue card to a yellow card! In a previous post, I talked about blue = good, green = kinda good, yellow = kinda not good, pink = go directly to jail the principal's office. Each day, Addison brings home her Daily Folder and I have to initial every day to let the teacher know that I saw the behavior for the day. 

As Addison was walking out of school to the car, I noticed she was crying. I haven't seen tears in a very long time, so I knew something bad happened. She got in and I held her for a minute to try and console her. Finally, I made her get in her seat, so we could head home. All the way home, I tried to get her to open up and talk to me about why she was so upset. She only told me that she was crying because she missed me, but I could tell there was more. Once we got home I sat her in my lap and asked her to talk to me about her day. She was very sad and it broke my heart. Then I asked her if she got in trouble. Those big, tear-filled, brown eyes looked up at me and said 'yes'. I asked her what color she got moved to and she said 'yellow'. I guess she was listening the day I told her if she comes home with yellow or pink then she would get in trouble at home too. She started telling me that when she got moved from blue to green she really WASN'T talking. Then when she got moved to yellow (the whole class got a card pulled), she WAS talking. I told her that we all get in trouble sometimes and to try better tomorrow. I also told her to tell the teacher that she's sorry for talking. Ha, she told me that she will apologize and also tell the teacher that she needs to get the yellow mark off of her daily calendar because she wasn't talking the first time her blue card got pulled. I told her to apologize and do not tell the teacher anything else. What's done is done and tomorrow is a new day. STOP TALKING WHEN YOU AREN'T SUPPOSED TO! 

It's a good thing that she didn't get in trouble early in the day! It was picture day today! Yes, she's wearing tennis shoes. Wednesday is PE day and it was either her wear the tennis shoes or take them in her backpack. I made both of our lives easier by just letting her wear them. The pink in the shoe matches the pink in her outfit, so it worked!

Pumpkin Patch 2013

The weather was finally nice enough to make a trip to the pumpkin patch last weekend! The girls had a great time picking the perfect pumpkins, playing in the bounce house, eating popcorn, and getting faces painted! Addison said she wanted to get her face painted, but I had to go first. Alyssa didn't want to do it. So in the middle of getting my face painted, Addison decided she no longer wants hers done! However, Alyssa decided she did want hers done! When Alyssa was almost done, then Addison changed her mind again and ended up get her face painted after all. 

Reading

I need to get a video of Addison reading! Holy Smokes! It's freaking amazing! My little baby girl is learning to read and it's one of those moments in life where you just sit back and smile while holding back tears. Like her first cry, first smile, first word, first step; I know there will be many more of these moments and this is just the tip of the iceberg. 

Every Tuesday, Addison's class goes to the library to read and check out a book. She's always so excited to show off the book she picked out and read it at bedtime. Alyssa is STUCK on a Strawberry Shortcake book from our library and I'm really tired of reading it. In fact, so tired of it that it's now hidden for a week or two or ten.

Salon Time

Hair rollers! I was shopping for ponytail holders and came across some hair rollers. All little girls need hair rollers! They loved playing at the salon with the new rollers. I don't have any 'after' pictures yet. Addison's hair turned out super wavy and Alyssa's hair turned out frizzy without any curls! 

Alyssa Says:

Alyssa propped a pillow up on the side of the bed and was about to slide down it. She said 'This pillow is like a rainbow. You can slide down rainbows. Dora and Boots do it all the time and they don't even need their mama'!

Alyssa: Mom, you know my throat is a food slide? I put the food in my mouth and it slides down my throat. That's how food gets to my tummy!

Alyssa: Mom, you are my favorite mama!
Me: That's great, Alyssa!
Alyssa: Mom, am I your favorite daughter?
Me: Nice try, kiddo!

Wakey Wakey

I have the pleasure of waking up to this every morning! When mommy just needs 5 more minutes of sleep, they make sure it doesn't happen. They better be glad they're cute!

Kindergarten Tales

Addison told me that it was okay to not be first in the car line to pick her up. Her reason was because her friend Michael is a car rider too and they can sit together while waiting to be picked up. She likes talking to him....

Addison told me that she wanted to look very pretty one day. I told her that she looks very pretty every day! I'm not going to read more into this, like - she wants to look very pretty for Michael. She's 5 and is a little girl that wants to look very pretty just because!

Addison told me about a new boy in her class. She said she doesn't like him. I asked why and she said because he's a boy. I said 'but, you like Michael'. She said 'yes, but he's sweet and always has a smile on his face'!

Addison had an 'early release' day for parent/teacher conference. I didn't pack a lunch since school would let out at 10:55 (lunch is at 10:45). Addison got out of the car and I handed her backpack to a teacher. The teacher helped Addison put the backpack on and then Addison started to walk away. I had just closed the door and was about to pull off from the curb when I saw Addison turn and go back to the teacher. I stopped and opened the door to see what happened. Addison noticed how light her backpack was and got very upset about her lunch not being in the backpack. We've been talking about 'early release' all week....even the morning of on the way to school, I told her that I would be picking her up before lunch. I had a surprise lunch/playdate planned that I had been keeping from her, but when I saw how upset she was about her lunch not being in the backpack I went ahead and told her. That seemed to help a little, but I could see that she was still confused. Rule of Life #9843714 Don't disrupt a 5 year-olds routine! Do the same shit every day no matter what.

Preschool Picture Day

Alyssa is ready for her school pictures today! She was hamming it up for the camera at home this morning.
