Crawfish & Cocktails

Erin and I had a girl's night out last weekend! We left the kids and husbands at home. Dinner, drinks, dancing! Just what we needed! We were tempted to go home after dinner, but felt we had to take advantage of our free time. We headed to the club. Yes, in my minivan. There was a parking spot reserved for us too! Not sure why there was a handicap sign instead of a personalized sign? I guess they just didn't know we would be stopping by that night.

Moving On Up

My baby girl will be 6 in 36 days! I finally took a deep breath and switched her from a 5 point harness seat to a high back booster seat on March 18, 2014! She was so happy and I was so sad.

Warming Up

Spring is right around the corner and we are ready! I don't think I've ever been so ready for warm weather. 

Lunch Date

We've been having lots of lunch dates with this little girl. Even when she knows we are coming to eat, she still gets so excited and lights up when she sees us. BTW - cafeteria food is just as awful as I remember. Guess that's one thing that will never change in school. The salad tray is the safest bet for a good meal at school. It comes with chicken, shredded cheese, cucumbers, ranch dressing. Usually a side of kiwi, carrots, peaches, etc. One day we went, Addison invited Avry to eat with us. Za'Mor wanted to eat with us so badly, so I promised him that I would come back Thursday. Well, we went on Thursday, but unfortunately Za'Mor wasn't on blue or green, so he couldn't eat with us. Addison invited Malin instead. After spring break, students can no longer invite friends to eat with them. Some parents aren't comfortable with their child eating with families. This is a sad situation, just like lockdown drills. I'm confident that this decision wasn't made on a whim and a parent had a legitimate concern. It still sucks for the students who really loved inviting a friend to eat with them. 

Spelling Test & Lockdowns

I decided to switch up our usual homework and gave Addison a spelling test just to see what would happen. She got an A+! Smarty pants! I'm not sure how much a kindergartener should know by this point, but I am sure that mine knows the most!

School....elementary school....kindergarten... I will never get used to 'lockdown' drills in school. We had tornado and fire drills when I was in school. We didn't know the 'bandits' were a real threat to us at a 'safe' place like school. There was a fire drill today at school while I was sitting in the car line. All of the kids came out and went to their designated areas very quickly. After a few minutes, the principal announced over the intercom that the fire drill was a success and it was time for the 'lockdown' drill. I knew about the lockdown drill because they've been done several times this school year. Each time Addison talks a little more about them. Today, she talked a lot. I was fighting back tears all the way home. 

Me: Mommy saw you today during the fire drill!

Addison: I saw you too!

Me: So, y'all had a lockdown drill after the fire drill?

Addison: Yes!

Me: What do y'all do during the lockdown drill?

Addison: Well, first we cover up all of the windows on the doors and lock the doors. Then we all get in one corner of the room and the teacher turns out the lights. We have to be very very quiet and not make a sound. If someone knocks on the door we can't open it. The teacher has a flashlight, so nobody will be scared. The teacher and aide stay right beside us to keep us safe. 

Me: Why would the school go into a lockdown?

Addison: Well, just in case the bandits try to come into our school. Sometimes there are bad people that want to make us dead or want to take us. We don't let the bad guys in our school. 

Me: Speechless and trying not to cry.

Part of me is happy that she is learning about reality and the world we live in today and the other part wants to put her on lockdown at home and shelter her forever. I'm pretty sure I will feel this way for the rest of my life! LOL! I've said it before and I'll say it again....it's hard being a parent. It isn't hard 100% of the time (don't be afraid, KJ). However, when your baby talks about bandits and death.....it's hard.

Trampoline Park

Last weekend, we went to  birthday party for one of Addison's classmates at a trampoline park. This was our first time to go and it was amazing! Seriously, wall to wall trampolines! The kids 7 and under have a designated area with trampolines, bouncy house, slides. There's also a foam pit where you can jump into from a trampoline or swing into from a rope. Addison had a great time! I'm thinking she may need a trampoline for her birthday. Considering how much the girls jump on the bed and couch, I think it would get used quite a bit.

Water Balloons

One of Addison's classmates gave her some water balloons, so we put them to use last weekend! It was so much fun! We all took turns throwing balloons at each other. There were a few hits and a few misses and a lot of laughs!
